## Feminists don't wear pink We are devouring Scarlett Curtis’s new book: *Feminists Don’t Wear Pink & Other Lies*. It’s a collection of essays by 52 women on what feminism means to them. In her words, “I made this book for my 15-year-old self.” So we asked the activist and writer to tell us more about it and recommend some other inspiring books. ### Can you tell us why you wrote *Feminists Don't Wear Pink*? Because I wanted to hear women's voices. I felt that there were so many women around me that I really admired, but I hardly ever heard their point of view on feminism. The book is really a celebration of what feminism actually means, or what it can mean, for anyone and everyone. ### So what does feminism mean to you? To me, feminism is not about hating men, or bras, or body hair. It’s about being passionate about making the world a safer, fairer place for women. Scarlett Curtis at the book launch. Today, it's probably Lolly Adefope's piece. It's funny and interesting, and it makes you think about how feminism should be a part of everything we do. ### And what other books would you recommend to people wanting to explore feminism? - [*How to be a Woman*](https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/1089901/how-to-be-a-woman/) by Caitlin Moran - [*The Second Sex*](https://www.penguin.co.uk/books/525/52565/the-second-sex/9780140184935.html) by Simone de Beauvoir - [*Persepolis*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/95163.Persepolis_The_Story_of_a_Childhood) by Marjane Satrapi - [*The Beauty Myth*](https://www.randomhouse.com/book/188540/the-beauty-myth-by-naomi-wolf) by Naomi Wolf - [*Men Explain Things to Me*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18413917-men-explain-things-to-me) by Rebecca Solnit - [*Eloquent Rage: A Black Feminist Discovers Her Superpower*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34720937-eloquent-rage) by Brittney Cooper
